In cities with a Chinatown, weekend mornings bring dim sum carts or order sheets, and lines form early at the most popular spots in San Francisco; walk-ins are standard and reservations are uncommon outside large banquet restaurants. Regional labels matter: Cantonese, Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghainese and Taiwanese kitchens cook very differently, so a restaurant's stated region is a better guide to the food than the word "Chinese" alone. Some smaller restaurants in California are BYOB with no corkage fee; call ahead to confirm. A tip of 15-20% is customary for table service but not expected at counter-order takeout. Spice level, MSG and allergen questions are normal to ask before ordering, and most kitchens are happy to leave an ingredient out or tone down the heat if you mention it when ordering rather than after the food arrives.

San Francisco is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Getting around San Francisco is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across California's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

Pretty upsetting to give a negative review on this spot. Came here for Father's Day where we called to see what the wait time was and it was communicated plenty of tables available. PERFECT! Upon arrival there were two other tables with people but no front of house presence or greeting when an employee came out. She asked us how many people and if we had called. Since we were a party of 5 we asked her if we could sit at a particular open table that was open so it would give us space with one of the filled tables and was just told no and that we needed to sit at this other one that had the same amount of seating. The other table was then filled an hour later as we were leaving! Odd and we didn't understand why we couldn't have been seated at that one. We had to flag someone down to place our order with a male waiter who was better than the female waitress but not that much better. Our pan fried dumplings was uncooked and it was cold in the center when my dad ate one. The female waitress took the order to the open table behind us and proceeded to open them all so it was uncomfortable for her to do that vs. apologizing and taking the order to the back. When the new order finally did

So good we came back for round 2 the next night. Soup dumplings are soooo good here and port took sized of everything are massive. We over ordered first night because we underestimated the size of dim sum and plates. Everything was good. We tried soup dumplings, potstickers, Mongolian beef potstickers, chili wontons, shrimp shumai, sweet and sour chicken, beef chow main, pan fried pork buns, pork bbq baos, cucumber salad, eggplant in garlic. EVERYTHING WAS DELICIOUS

Overall, the food was pretty mediocre. The Wonton in Chili Oil threw me off, it didnβt really have that strong chili kick and instead had this unexpected nutty flavor that I wasnβt a fan of. The XLB was also a letdown since only about 4 out of 10 actually had soup in them. The highlight of the meal was definitely the pan-fried dumplings though. They were juicy, tender, and full of flavor, probably the one thing Iβd come back for.

Tried this place with my friend for the first time. we got four items. It was good portion. We couldnβt finish the XLB and had to take it to go. The food, atmosphere, and service were mostly good. however, it can get quite loud during peak hours. Itβs in a quiet neighborhood, mostly residential area. If you plan to come, I recommend taking the L line MUNI because only street parking.

From the moment I arrived at Dumpling Kitchen, the place was bustling with energy and the captivating aroma of the food was incredible. I started with the fan tuan (sticky rice roll), and the crunchy, delightful pork floss was the perfect touch. I also had the spicy Black Forest mushroom salad, which was absolutely out of this world. To finish, the salted egg yolk steamed bun was the perfect sweet and savory end to a fantastic meal.
